The Colca canyon is located in the province of Cailloma department of Arequipa and is considered one of the deepest canyons of Perú and the world; it has a depth of approximately 3400 meters deep and it is deeper than the famous Grand Canyon in the United States. The area that surrounds the canyon is surrounded by large volcanoes as the Coropuna, Ampato and the Sabancaya that can be appreciated in all its magnitude and beauty. Among the steep mountains and volcanoes of the valley of the Colca we find thermal baths with medicinal properties as La Calera and Yanque located to the west of Arequipa).
The minimum time recommendable for the visit to canyon is of 2 or 3 days, with an overnight in Achoma. The trip toward the canyon is extremely attractive due to the beautiful landscape that shows the valley with approximately 8000 hectares of cultivable terraces can be observed, colonial architectural monuments in their picturesque towns and great variety of flora (cactus) and fauna (condors, llamas, vicuñas, etc.).
The tourist sector of the canyon is found at an hour from the town of Chivay and can be visited freely during all the year, this beautiful place is also known for recreational activities and adventure sports, and is recommended between the months of May and November known as the dry season.

The Colca window (a natural sighting spot of Colca since you can be appreciated the highway at the entrance of the valley, is located at 135 Km. since the city of Arequipa - 2 hours 30 minutes), The Castle of Callalli (geological formations of singular beauty located in an altitude of 3,850 m. s. n. m, is located at 43 Km. from Chivay - 45 minutes), The Stones Forest of Imata (rocky formation that comprehend of natural stone columns that look like a forest, is located at140Km. from the city of Arequipa - 4 hours), The Window of the Cross of the Cóndor (at 42 Km. approximately from the city of Chivay -1 hour), The Tombs of Choquetico (these tombs date approximately of the year 1200 A.D. and they are found to 27 Km. approximately from Chivay - 40 minutes), Church of Cabanaconde (approximately 56 Km. from Chivay -1 hour 30 minutes), Church of the Purísima Conception de Lari (24 Km. approximately 50 minutes form Chivay), Volcano Ampato (at 173 Km. distance from the city of Arequipa - 4 hours 30 minutes).
